Fusion Splicers

Fusion splicing is the process of applying heat to fuse together optical fibers, which minimizes insertion loss and back reflections in the fused component. Thorlabs’ Vytran® fusion splicers are available in models capable of splicing cladding diameters up to Ø1.25 mm. Our CO2 Laser End-Cap Splicer can directly splice end caps up to Ø5 mm. Choose from dedicated, standalone fusion splicers and multipurpose designs that are also capable of stripping, cleaning, cleaving, recoating, and/or proof testing. Fusion splicers are available for single mode, multimode, and polarization-maintaining fibers. Our GPX series glass processors can splice fibers or end caps with up to Ø5 mm cladding and additionally offer the ability to taper fibers, create terminations such as ball lenses, and fabricate couplers or combiners.
